Read All About It

Spiritual Living - Read All About ItSpiritual Living ~

Although I'm not old enough to remember the real thing, I've seen lots of movies with newsboys hawking their wares. "Read all about it," they shouted, hoping to sell more newspapers. But is this such a good idea in the spiritual world?

There are tons of books out there about God - really terrific books with more coming out every day. And most churches these days have groups devoted to studying various kinds of theological works. This is all great. But are we so busy learning ABOUT God that we don't really KNOW God?

Now don't get me wrong. I have no issue with writing or studying theology. But at the end of the day, does it actually enhance our relationship with God? Will we have a deep and abiding sense of his presence in our lives - or merely minds filled with facts while God himself seems far away?

What do you think?

Hi Lisa, I've been blessed because the studies I've done, either with my sister saints, or in mixed groups, *have* pushed me into places and ways of thinking that I might not have done or thought. That, in turn, has grown me, matured me as I get nearer and nearer the root of the vine. I wouldn't describe my studies as "theology" so much as life application of scripture and spending time with Him daily, by feeling the Holy Spirit, by longing for the Word, and being fed so that I want more. My studies have encouraged me to want more of Jesus and less of the world. A great question and, BTW, my dad was a paperboy for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and was the poster boy for many years. ;~)

      Hi There -

Thanks so much for your great comment. Sorry to be a little late responding - we've been moving. But now we're getting settled, so I can turn my attention back to the Internet!

I can sure appreciate your spiritual journey. It's so interesting how others help us grow - whether we want them to or not.

It sounds like you're on a good spiritual path and I especially like your wonderful attitude.

Thanks again for writing - hope you are blessed today!
